On April 1, 2025, KLIS Chinese-side Vice Principal Mira Zhou attended the international celebration “Nowruz 2025: Harmony of Tradition and Sustainable Development” hosted by the Secretariat of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, representing the school。

Nowruz meaning “new day” in Persian, is far more than just the start of a new year—it is an ancient celebration of life, rebirth, and the triumph of light over darkness。 With roots extending back over 3,000 years to the era of Zoroastrianism, Nowruz heralds the arrival of spring and is celebrated on the day of the vernal equinox, usually March 20 or 21。 Today, it unites diverse cultures across Iran, Central Asia, the Caucasus, the Balkans, and beyond, offering a rich tapestry of customs, traditions, and shared values。

This cross-cultural celebration brought together diplomats, representatives of international organizations, and distinguished guests from around the world to witness the perfect fusion of ancient Eurasian spring traditions and modern concepts of sustainable development。
The event opened with keynote speeches by SCO Secretary-General Yermekbayev and China‘s Special Representative for Eurasian Affairs, Mr。 Li Hui, setting the tone for this cultural gathering。 A congratulatory video message from UN Secretary-General António Guterres was also played, marking the occasion as a truly global moment。 KLIS Operations Director and Principal Assistant Ms。 Zhou Wan joined diplomats from various countries in witnessing this historic event。 With her deep expertise in international education, she was particularly struck by the Secretary-General’s emphasis on the “critical role of intercivilizational dialogue in building a shared future for humankind”—a powerful reflection of KLIS’s mission to be “Rooted in China, Connected to the World。”

The celebration also featured vibrant performances by cultural troupes from SCO member state embassies in China and Minzu University of China。 Attendees enjoyed exhibitions of traditional crafts and cuisine from several SCO countries。 As a shared festival among many SCO member states, Nowruz not only celebrates the arrival of spring but also symbolizes humanity’s collective hopes for abundance, prosperity, happiness, and peace。
